REDUCED! H.L. Leonard 8'6" 5-6 weight Silver Signature graphite rod, circa 1978. Original owner; purchased direct from Andy Puyans at his Walnut Creek shop. Andy created the "AP" nymph and founded the Calif chapter of Trout Unlimited in 1964.

Excellent condition. Medium action. Down locking aluminum reel seat with rosewood spacer. Finely tapered cigar cork grip, strap & ring hook keeper. The threaded collar of the reel seat has the typical tiny hairline crack that does not effect the locking mechanism. The rod is wrapped in silver gray thread with red tipping at the winding check, spigot ferrule and tip top. Signed "The H.L. Leonard Rod Co., 8'6"~6" original canvas sack and a dented aluminum tube. I preferred using it with a 5WF.

$275 OBRO plus shipping. Trade towards Sage LL 4-5 series

Another piece of fly fishing history.

Rarer than an old Winston or an old Scott.

Leonard made some of the best split cane fly rods but their fiberglass and graphite fly rods are very rare.

In my 50 years of selling fly rods, I have never seen any of their glass or graphite rods.

Creative Sports was way into the split cane and were probably a Leonard dealer back then.

What a treasure to own.

Perfect for larger trout streams or Half-pounders.

Buy it and put an older Hardy Princess on it.

I would try a DT5F for streams and a WF6F for Half-ponders and lakes.

I use the “Golden Shadow” line of Leonards graphite rods for large trout. It casts great and has an extremely soft action. One of them is a prototype that I think JK Fisher made for them. This one is a bargain but I can’t use more than a dozen.
