A friend took my down to Fort Pierce to show me how to catch "Lookdowns" to eat.

It was about 36 miles south of my town, Sebastian, Florida, to the Fort Pierce Inlet.

We fished off a catwalk under a large bridge over the water.

We use "crappie" size spinning tackle with small jigs.

He said we were fishing an outgoing tide which is best for this location and fisheries.

I caught one on the first cast......one of the most beautiful fish.

We caught a dozen in an hour and then called it quits.

They are fairly flat with only small fillets and there is no limit on these prolific fish.

There was about 30 "anglers" on the catwalk and we saw only one other fish caught........sad.

We caught two at a time on occasion. We did let two young men use our spinning outfits and with instruction, they caught some.


Just ate some for dinner and they were wonderful.........fresh too.

I think if I had the opportunity to catch some of those "lookdowns" I'd grab my twohanded fly rod and tie up a few "small jigs" just to see how the locals would react to someone using a fly rod to catch those "lookdowns".:cool::cool::cool:

They use two-handed fly rods in the surf, especially up on the Northeast coast of America.

They fish in the summer for Stripers and Bluefish from the surf with stripping baskets, overheard casting with shooting heads.
