I had one back in the 1970s. They have a very smooth lighter cork drag. We sold many of them.
It was nice for fishing King salmon in the tidewater from an anchored pram because after you hooked a fish you could put it between
your legs (crotch) and still row your boat to get out of the way and land it. With anti-reverse, the handle did not spin.
I had it on a Scientific Angler 'System 9' fly rod. It was a thick fiberglass blank made by J Kennedy Fisher with a spigot ferrule. The male
part of the ferrule was metal into fiberglass female. I think it was 8'9" #9 line in 2 piece. It had a Calair reel seat with a nice removable
short fighting butt.

Bill,
Bruised, broken knuckles is one thing but a bruised, broken crotch? Thank the gods for anti-reverse!
Great memories!

One of our best old fly fishing buddies, Skip Orr, who is gone now, had one of those Gold Fin-Nor No.2 anti-reverse fly reels.
He would go to Upper Goethe Park (Communists named it River Bend Park now ) in the 1970s during the huge Shad runs.
On the weekends the "out of towners" would come and there would be hundreds of fly fishers there.
Skip would stand around on the bank with all his gear on, smoking a cigar and proudly displaying that reel on a Fenwick fly rod.
Someone always stopped and chatted with him because most had only seen those reels in magazines.

Lance, I noticed that you worked at Powell's in the 80's. I managed the photography, catalog production and logo design for Walt and Press so we may have crossed paths. Still have a bundle of their graphite and cane rods. Those were the days!
Now, will someone please buy or trade the Fin Nor?!?!

EC Powell's family has a long and very interesting history.
Kiene's Fly Shop was a Powell dealer, starting in the 1980s.

I knew Denton Hill too but not as well as Lance because he lived in Chico.
He was associated with Fishing International Travel Service in Santa Rosa, CA, owned by Bob Nauheim and Frank Bertaina.
Denton had some crazy flies he made for permit and bonefish called the 'Cahill'.
His other passion was motorcycles, back in the day.
Denton's old friend, and mine too, was Armando Magri who owned the Harley Davidson shop in Sacramento.
My uncle, Dick Anderson, worked for Magi many years ago.
When Denton and Armando came into my fly shop to go on a big trip it was like having two old celebrities there.
Seriously, they could do a movie about either one of those amazing men of the Great Generation.
We had amazing men like Ted Williams, a baseball great, and Chuck Yeager, a famous pilot, come into our fly shop too.
Also, the big fly fishing companies would send famous fly fishers to our shop as well.
We had famous fly fishers like Chico Fernandez, Doug Swisher, Dave Whitlock, and Al Caucci, (book Hatches), come for a weekend.
