Got lucky today and got this nice 150lb ahi on the troll. It has been a terrible year this season with cold water and no bait.

Got her on ice and will cut the ahi tomorrow. Should be some good sashimi and poke.

Don,
That doesn't look like you're having too terrible of a year.

Our first exposure to Sashimi was on Christmas Island in the 1980s.

My old friend Cecil "Jr" Wilder went on a charter boat out of San Diego down into Mexico for about 35 years.

His favorite Sashimi was fresh caught Wahoo (Ono) and Yellow Tail (Hamachi).

My favorite Sashimi is Yellow Tail (Hamachi).

My wife's favorite is tuna and I think we mostly get Yellowfish tuna here.

Bill,
Blackfin is pretty common too down in the keys. We'd have it every time we were in Islamorada at Uncle's Restaurant. Mmmmm:
Lightly grilled with a little soy and wasabi. Yummm Tony

Yes Tony, Cold lightly seared tuna is pretty unreal.......

I took my dad, Fred Kiene, to Christmas Island in the 1980s.

He was stationed "next door" on Palmyra Atoll (1940s) during World War II.

In the US Navy he was an aircraft mechanic "patching shot up planes" that were coming back north to Hawaii from the South Pacific.

He said the two island were similar but Christmas was larger with more building and people.

Christmas Island is on my Bucket List recommendations for everyone.

Here are some great photos from the O'Neil Family trip 2015.

They have a large "Trip Report" on there as well.
