The Oregon Report

I spent some days on the north coast of Oregon. Wind and fog but some nice sunshine also. Plenty of Portlandians and other folks running around trying to enjoy some cool summer days. Lots of boats being towed around and launched for coho, rockfish and crab trips. I got out on the ocean one day. We miraculously hit a sunny five hour window with light winds and got a bunch of black rockfish and some greenling, cabezon and ling cod. I kayak fished one day in the bay for crab. I bass fished in a local shallow lake. I spent a lot of time on foot and in the kayak looking for birds and any other critter that would make a good picture. I really went crazy on that. I could bury this post in bird pictures but I will try to keep them to what I think is a reasonable number for a fly fishing board. There is actually not a lot of fly fishing in this post but this is the photography page. There is plenty of bad environmental news out there but you can still find some beauty and wildlife in the world if you look for it. I find the photography makes you slow down, look and listen and you start seeing things you would have otherwise missed. Fun stuff for sure.

There are hundreds of different Kingfishers around the World. Some are smaller than ours and in the Amazon they are bigger.

Hope you can take a trip to the Amazon some day.

Love the racoon shot......a cool animal.

Marilyn and I love the Pacific coast.

I love it from Nor Cal, Oregon and Washington.

It is amazing all the way from Mexico to Alaska.



There are some very interesting lakes along the Oregon coast.

I think "Tenmile lakes" is listed in Oregon's top 10 Bass lakes?

"The most famous of these is arguably Tenmile Lakes, a sprawling pair of connected lakes among the dunes on the Oregon Coast."

Some of these lakes are visible from Hwy 1 and have bass, panfish, steelhead and silver salmon in them?

The kingfisher shot is a big score. My brother law spotted them paddle boarding a pond. I went looking for them and there were a few there but they came and went. When they perched I would approach. You need them close, at eye level, well lighted, in a profile pose, crown flared and with a background that makes them stand out. After several pursuits over three days that all came together on one shot. Not an easy bird to get. The kayak is the key. You can approach from whatever direction is best and use both hands for the camera. What you don’t need is some jamoke coming by and spooking your bird.

Kudos on the photo's. That Eagle looks so dignified. The fishing looks like fun (fresh or salt). Lots of good stuff to enjoy up there. :cool:
