My long time friend, Todd Setzer, moved from Sacramento to San Diego and has told me a lot about fly fishing for Makos.

He fished with Dave Trimble for Makos.

Conway Bowman, is one who pioneered this fishing.

I wrote a good story about fishing Mako's there a couple of years ago. Conway Bowman was hard to book because of his popularity so I got ahold of Capt. Dave Trimble who I believe is Conway's partner.

We had a great day with all the same action you see on YouTube. One surprise was when we stopped to catch bait. Mackerel on a 5 wt. is great fun. After a few, the Mackerel suddenly disappeared. Dave quickly yelled out "there's something big coming in". Sure enough moments later a small Blue shark came in and I was able to tease him to bite on the Clouser I was using for the Mackerel. Talk about fun:) Small Blue on a 5 wt. is wild but nothing compared to a Mako on at least a 12 wt. or bigger.
