Had a report that Lake Berryessa is at it's best right now.

Report was 70 bass in one day. April/May is the window of opportunity.

Almost all of California's low elevation reservoirs are going to have bass in shallows for the spring spawn now.

Go now or you will miss it..............

Nor Cal veteran fly fisher Dave Hudson uses a very fast sinking full line and a small black crystal bugger.

50 years ago Bill Lynch and Chuck Bobby use to use fly rods and medium size white poppers in Berryessa.

I am sure this was early AM with low wind......

If you don't know the lake I would drive all along the south shore to get to know it.

Lots of coves along that side where small creeks come in.

You can see the bass from the road in shallow flats this time of year.

You could use a kayak, float tube or pontoon boat.

50 years ago many fly fished from float tubes in many California low elevation reservoirs in the Fall too.

Oct/Nov the lakes would "turn over" and the small Threadfin Shad would come to the surface.

Every fish in the lake would come to the top and eat them......

Such a cool fishery. Best mixture of fish around. Big bass of all species, spots, smallmouth, and largemouth. Giant carp willing to eat flies, crappie. Surprisingly clean, big, wild looking trout during the spring... Largemouth big enough to feed on said trout. And close to home. Berryessa truly has it all. Sounds like it turned on like a light switch now. Little late this year, but just about on cue!
