Absolutely the best post ever.........

The Feds and States want to eliminate rural land ownership.

A hunter was caught eating a freshly killed Bald Eagle and was taken to court for sentencing.

He was fined heavily, had his gun taken and hunting license as well.

The Game Warden came up to him after the sentencing and asked him one question:

"What does a Bald Eagle taste like?"

The hunter said, "Kind of between a Condor and a Spotted Owl."

That is awesome! It sounds as if Tennessee DFW may be run by the same type of geniuses that we have out here in CA.

Fake news. This story has been roaming the net for a few years, only the state changes. Steve Niemela is a biologist studying Foothill Yellow Legged Frogs in OREGON. This never happened. In fact yellow legged frogs don't live within 1500 miles of Tennessee.

Yep. Totally false story that's been tossed around for a while. Amazing how much false information shows up on the 'net, even on dinky fishing sites like this. As Barnum said, "a sucker is born every minute". Even looks like a few here fell for it and issued the appropriate political response!

SATIRE!! Get a sense of humor.

It is only satire when it is recognized as such. When it is swallowed hook, line, and sinker it is no longer satire and simply becomes yet another lie. According to some of the responses here, it was believed and reacted upon without hesitation.

If the story were true, it would be hilarious. But it ain't. Total fiction.
What's hilarious is the number of people here who believed it. Now, that's some funny chit!!!!
BTW, the frog is only found in NorCal and S. ORE, and Steve works for ODFW.
HOOK. LINE. SINKER!!!!!!!!

You’re missing the whole point of the story. No one really cares if it’s true or not.

the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. Definition from Oxford Dictionary. No mention of whether the reader recognizes the writing as such. After all, a green frog is still green even if the observer is blind.

Been noticing a lot of cranky fellas on here lately. Fishing must be tough. I sometimes try and picture the person behind the angry posts. A twenty something who is triggered easily or perhaps an older gentleman who strapped his New Balances on too tight.

The original post would be funny if it didn't personally attack Steve Niemela without any factual basis. Steve is hard working, good biologist, and a good person to boot. You slander a friend, accept what comes back at you.

I can respect that but I doubt anyone who thought it was funny knew who that was. I certainly didn't. I found it funny just on the context alone and not who was mentioned in the story. Again, I respect that you have your friend's back.

Yep, same here. The story was completely false. If it were true that would be a different story. But it was a total lie.
Everyone here can call me whatever name they want and fling all the insults my way. Don't worry, I've got a thick skin. Attack people I know professionally with lies and that's a different story.

I certainly never thought it was a true story.
Guess I should have mentioned that.

I believe Bob stated at the top “ I do not believe this to be anything near a true story I find the "answer" funny. ”. I think we all read it the same way, but anyone who has had to deal with government bureaucracy got a wry smile out of this. And I see a “Steve Jones” listed there (probably the edit noted on the original post), but I had even looked at the name until you mentioned it, Ralph. We need to lighten things up a little on these sites - leave the animosity to Facebook, Twitter and the like. We have way too many common interests and concerns to start fracturing as a community.

BobVP edited in the caveat “ I do not believe this to be anything near a true story I find the "answer" funny” and changed the name to "Steve Jones" just today. That stuff was not in the OP. What I objected to, is someone posting a story that's a complete lie, being used to justify the political derived agenda remarks that followed by certain individuals, also denigrating a respected biologist, before Ralph and myself jumped in to set the record straight. And no, we do NOT need to "lighten up" on persons who do that. This site is a far cry from what it used to be years ago, and the politicking is the main reason why I rarely post here any longer. And your gonna say, wait you don't have all that many posts from many years ago. But in reality I'm a former VERY active poster here that most old timers here would know who I am if I posted under my old name. If this site wants to be taken as a serious fishing site with good information, the political BS has got to stop, IMNSHO.

TOTALLY agree. It was a political post at the start and to think it wouldn't create a political backlash is simply naive. If the original post had stated "Steve Jones" instead of naming my friend, who is a real person, and a real biologist, I would have gone along for the laugh. Instead it was nothing short of targeted slander.

I related to the story and found it entertaining. I couldn’t even tell you the names of the characters because the story was so relatable. But names seem to be the focus I guess. Nothing new these days.

Ralph and Wlredband,
I did a search on Yahoo and found the original post on many sites.
Seem that many sites have the same post from Tn, Ky, and elsewhere.
Steve's name appears in all of them. You two are to be
commended and thanked for your comments and support
for the Steve that's dissed in the original post and so widely
spread. Should be a way to stop this crap! Maybe folks
should just take a few minutes to verify things. How
easy is that?
Best to all,

Nope, you're missing the point.
The story is a lie. Not true. Didn't happen. It's not just about the names. The fact that the name belongs to a real person who has nothing to do with the false story makes it even worse.
Keep swallowing. Nothing new there either.

How many people focused on the name rather than the "story"? It amazes me how the media has turn some people into permanent offended, thin skin, citizens. Come guys, it's not about the names. it's about the fake story which reflects politics and how things can be used and manipulated for other purposes. It happens in everyday life and this story simply provides a sarcastic answer to such events.

The original message was sent with a disclaimer. The message was sent for comedy entertainment only. I know a couple of CA biologists and they would not take this humor personally. I agree, names should be not mentioned for any reason. What we should consider is that most of the lakes in Sierra Nevada's mountain range are no longer air-planted due to the "frog." Also, ethic cleansing of brown, brook and rainbow trout in Alpine County is also another issues that should be discussed. These are serious issues and CA Dept. of Wildfire made these decisions. I think they are horrible and are part of the liberal agenda. Lets stay focused on what is important for what is best for our fisheries and not get caught up in trivial comedy. Just my 2 cents.

Many people have no problem posting lies on the internet. Seems to be a vogue thing these days. Many people won't post lies on the internet and I fall squarely in that camp. Some of the responses here sure show me what camp you adhere to. Good information to know.

This is the funniest and most embarrassing post I have seen here. Reminds me of Chappelle’s last stand up. He explains how the crowd (all of us) are so sensitive it’s not worth it anymore. Heard similar messages from school districts explaining to parents that they are the reason athletic departments can’t find referees…..
I am in natural resources. I work with staff biologists weekly. I shared this post at a meeting (with multiple biologists in attendance last week) and the whole room was cracking up.

Rossflyguy,your first post nailed it.

So lame. It’s actually embarrassing.

I don’t think outdoorsmen (wait, I probably can’t say that…) How about, people who enjoy spending time outdoors, will ever unite to fight the good fights because of these weird fractions that only pull us further apart.

Boomers fighting boomers on an internet fly fishing forum about something that has nothing to do with fly fishing. Nice.
