In our travels we found that there are shallow, weedy lakes in Oregon and Nevada where trout and bass survive well together.

The trout are usually in the colder water and the bass are near the shore in the warmer water.

The most well known lake for this is Davis Lake in Oregon.

Our own Lake Davis in Plumas County, one of my favorite trout lakes over the years, now has a pretty good population of bass. I've only caught a few, while trout fishing. I know Joh Baiocchi reported catching some nice bass while trout fishing. I once talked to some guys throwing bass plugs who said they had no luck with bass but caught a 4lb trout on a topwater plug! I have been wanting to try popper fishing in the summer on Lake Davis, I'm curious if anyone has tried that and what experience they had.

Can I talk someone into PM’ing me with a pond/lake in the foothills where I can take my 10 year old son to sight fish for bass and bluegill? They can be small but I am hoping for at least a lot of looks from fish. He lives to fish but hasn't hit that ‘really hooked’ point in life. Part of the reason is because (I think) we are blind casting and trolling for trout. Thanks in advance.

Can't help with any ponds but any of the lakes that hold spotted bass can definitely provide what you are looking for if you time it out right. Once the spawn gets going you will have tons of fish up shallow and best of all they'll be in clear water. Don't know where you're located but my first choice would be Oroville. Melones and McClure are perfect for this also. With the low water this year you won't have to do alot of bush whacking to get to the water either.
As far as timing goes, it may not be too long before this starts happening with the weather pattern we're dealing with.
Feel free to contact me if you'd like more information.

I think most bass and panfish spawn in the Spring. April/May......

Lance Gray has great information shared on his Almanor Tours about bass there, I caught a couple when targeting trout.

I have not been there in a few years but the pond behind Folsom High had a healthy population of panfish that would be ready to play along in the catch and release game. typical size 14 and 16 drys, nymphs and small poppers worked well. They were small but willing so for a 10yo that's usually enough.

Other nearby ponds with bass/BG: main park in Meadow Vista; Auburn Rec Park, and the pond at Dog park in Auburn; Ride to Walk in Lincoln; numerous ponds in city of Sacramento. And check this website https://sacfishingspots.wordpress.com/william-b-pond-rec-area/

In my experience, the Meadow Vista park has a very small amount of fish other than when they stock. Haven't checked out the others though.
