Alpha fish predators were not a problem 50 to 100 years ago when the World's fishery populations were ten time as large as they are now. Sealions, Killer Whales and even birds are effecting our salmon and steelhead survival rates. Sealions actually follow the schools of spawning fish right up our fresh water rivers.

As they continue to remove the smaller, most compromised dams things should slowly get better for our anadromous fisheries.

Sharks numbers are also part of the problem. The fact that the predators that eat the sea lions are down is not helping.
