I called a Seattle fly shop to hire a guide and they said, in addition to deciding if they wanted to operate during the holidays, that weather and water really determines whether it would be worth it to take me out. So that's on a holding pattern for now.

I was hoping to fish the Skagit or Sauk for two handed winter steel, but it seems like it might be a bit early. Years past I fished for Pinks from the shore (around Anacortes), which was a ton of fun, but it will be obviously late in the year for that. I am not really all that interested in going out on a charter boat to troll for halibut.

My range I'm willing to drive is about as far as 2 to 2 1/2 hours from Anacortes. I'm visiting family, and will be using a rental car while up there, so I don't want to stray too far from home base. Any suggestions? Or should I just 'enjoy the opportunity' to spend time with family and shelve my fly rods?

My best suggestion is to hit up the Washington Fly Fishing Board. https://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/forum/index.php
