Any advice on fishing the McCloud in the next few days with 1-foot visibilty due to Mud Creek glacial runoff?

Well option one is go elsewhere. Option two is probably a big dark colored streamer.

Fish the banks with streamers. They’ll be hugging the bank.

Don’t waste your time. Plenty of great water in very close proximity

Thanks guys for your feedback. The night before we arrived there was a surge in turbidity. Visibility was probably 8" or so -- like in Willie Wonka. First night I caught one small guy swinging a caddis at dusk, plus had a few hits and saw a few fish rising. Next day I caught one on a weighted nymph while swinging it across the bottom slowly. The rest of the trip we fished the Upper Sac up high (cold water and productive, but small fish) and down low (warm water and not as productive), and the Pit which produced as usual.

I am thinking of fishing the lower McCloud on Labor Day weekend. Do any of you have an update on the water clarity?

Mike,

It looks like the Shasta Trinity National Forest is closed until early September. Do not know if that will extend past Labor Day.
