With the fairly dismal status of steelhead fishing I’m exploring trout spey more. Curious about everyone’s favorite trout spey flies. I’ve been doing well with “new trick” soft hackles and sculpzillas. While not trout spey flies per se they’ve been quite effective.

Many use soft hackles.

Caddis emergers are a common choice.

Skating muddlers and adult caddis could work.

Streamers on a sink-tip are one way to go.

Floating line, size 8-10 muddler as a point fly with a 12-16 soft hackle as a trailer fly.

Normally a lot of different streamers of various types and soft hackles, but this year I am starting to experiment with tying streamers using Arctic fox fur on micro tubes. Sorry but I can't seem to get my pictures loaded from my computer and don't have them online to use a URL.

Found an example of one similar to what I have been tying

I have just started Trout Spey, havent caught anything and cant really say I can cast at all but I have been tying miniature intruders and smaller unweighted streamers. Just stuff that has a natural looking colors with a little flash. Downsized the hooks for something more trout appropriate. Also please excuse the messy ties 168291683016831

Those are sweet @Lucas

Here are a few of my recent trout spey ties. They're all pretty quick and simple.

Ones in my hand are: dubbing, mallard flank, and india hen on a shank with a barbless 10 hook on intruder wire

Ones in the box are: tinsel, wire, dubbing, ostrich, and either guinea hen or schlappen on 10 wet fly hook
