Battle Of The Sacs: Lower or Lower Upper?

May be in the Redding area Friday, and am debating between the Lower Sac which is apparently fishing well and the Lower Upper Sac (Delta area) which may be coming into play. We'll be wading, making the Lower Sac somewhat less suitable. Any thoughts?

Also, does anyone know of a place that might rent a drift boat and provide a shuttle for the Lower Sac?

If the water is very cold the bite might be more mid-day in both places.

If you can find a boat to rent, shuttles can be provided by a woman, Kim. Her number is listed on The Fly Shops website when looking at the lower sac fishing report. The fishing should be good this weekend!

The Lower Sac is flowing 3500 cfs. Drifting is always a better bet on the Sac, but if you want to wade, now is the time.

Thanks, everyone. We ended up hitting the Upper Sac as mild temperatures were moving in. Fishing was not great, but good enough to call it a succesful trip (Friday & Saturday). On the downside, the river was pretty crowded Saturday, but still plenty of room for everyone. It's one of those rivers where, when there, I always ask myself why I don't fish it more often. It feels like a hybrid of the McCloud and Pit.

Fished the lower/mid Upper Sac again Monday and landed 10-15 fish each, some small, some big.

We were able to sneak in once more before flows rise from snowmelt (though probably not as much as a normal year).

Most effective flies were brown rubberlegs and Devin Olsen's Carrot Fly (CDC jig nymph - one of my most reliable flies, especially in the evening): https://www.tacticalflyfisher.com/blog/the-soft-hackle-carrot-fly-tying-tutorial/ .

Action picked up considerably late in the day -- so perhaps any fly would have been effective at that time.

Snowmelt not going to have a huge impact this year. It's mid-April and Shasta has 2 million acre-feet of storage space. Northern snowpack is about 50% of average.
