I don't have all the details, however I did send them to Bill, I thought he would post them?

The story is a guy fishing from the beach in Baja caught and landed a giant Rooster on a cast fly and is believed to be the largest ever fly caught rooster. They claim it might be 100 pounds and by the looks of it, I'll give it a hundred easy.

If somebody doesn't post this story I will dig it up and post it.

Big ol' 'Roo !

It's a wonder that there are any Roosterfish left on the East Cape . Gillnetting has turned that fantastic , rich area into a wasteland . I don't ever bother to fish there anymore when we visit .

David,
I don't fish the East cape, however I do know that Gary Bulla really pounds the big Roosters in that area. I also know that Loreto has more rooster's now then ever befour, earlier in June we literally had to kick the roosters out of the way (5-20 pound size) The gill netting and or long lining has hurt the Dorado population a lot, that I agree with however the roosters seem to be on the increase where I fish...my 2 cents having fished the same area for 21 years in a row :)

Hi Carl .

Gary does the La Ventana area , well North of where I used to fish . I did La Ribera down to Pulmo , and it IS a wasteland due to the nets . The worst of the netting started in 2014 , and by 2018 it had become a desert . I last fished there in April ? of 2019 , and despite there being more Sardina than I have EVER seen in my Life .... there were very few Gamefish on them , because they were gone . This year has been the best for Dorado in the last 10 or so years in that area , though . Keep in mind that the migratory species (Dorado , Tuna , Marlin) are not impacted as the inshore species . I only fish the beaches and surf . I found a few places on the Pacific side that are not netted - those are where I fish now .

The locals now keep 12-inch Sierra and tiny Toro , because that's about all that is left . The netters are still raping it as I write this .
