Hey Gents and Ladies,

Got the fam a rental for the holiday up Lassen way. Might have some time to sneak away and look at some water. What's fishable/worth fishing nearby that time of year? When does the snow usually close HW89? Thought about Manzanita as I have a portabote with hard sides. Also, is Hat Creek open to fishing in the offseason if you are strictly C/R? I've seen conflicting information.

Hat Creek closes on Nov 15. Manzanita will be open but it will be getting late in the year. Never know with the snow, but oftentimes the road to Manzanita will be open while 89 is shut down over the peak.

The Pit, Upper Sac, Trinity, and Lower Sac will be open. Nov. 15 shuts down pretty much all other moving waters. Baum Lake would be a good option. Planted, but fishes like a spring creek. No motors on Baum or Manzanita.

No motors on Baum or Manzanita.

Mummmmmm............ unless something has changed very recently, electric motors are still allowed on Baum Lake.

PGE has closed the gate to Baum Lake, Cassel Campground, North Shore Campground and Dusty Camp on Britton. The access at the McArthur Fairgrounds to the Rat Farm and the Canal has been locked also. Cal Trout access is open, but no launching boats on trailers. The proposal for 2021 will have Lower Hat Creek open year around, Fall River Valley also , both with some restrictions. Pit River to be open year around if the new regs goes into effect also.

No harm, no foul dude02. ;);)

But, as cdccopp reported............most everything is locked up around there.......so it all may be a moot point if everything remains locked up beyond Thanksgiving.

Very nasty times we're in right now....................:mad:

Gosh, that's bad news.

It is a longer drive from Lassen area, but the Upper Sac will fish very well at that time of year, especially down closer to the lake you will find bigger fish and they will be grabby.

The upper Trinity River could also fish well with some modest public/roadside access options around Lewiston and Douglas City, but again that is a longer drive.

The lower Sac below Keswick fishes well 365 days a year it seems and is 60' closer to where you will be than both of the other options. Depending on the flows, there can be some good wade fishing just below the CA44 bridge on the east bank of the river.

What about McCumber? And don't forget the BIG lake, Almanor. Thanksgiving should be right around when the big browns come up shallow....

Most fishable places will be at least an hour - so you're really going to be at the mercy of the weather. If it holds you could get some good fishing in.
