Planning a trip to the Klamath in early September. I want to fish the lower river below Weitchpec towards Johnsons but I have heard there isn't great bank access. I am curious if it is worth my time to do this or if I should just stay above Weitchpec where the access is better.

Stay above Weitchpec. Try between Orleans and Wetchapec.

The lower Rouge river in early September is good and has better road access.

I like October for the middle Klamath and middle Rogue rivers.

I believe the Hoopa and Yurok reservations are still closed to visitors, that rules out the Klamath below Weitchpec.

Well that settles that then

If the Hoopa and Yurok Reservations are closed to visitors, does that affect jet boaters on the river from the mouth up? I assume not and saw nothing on their websites.

I just gave the Yurok tribal office a call and was informed that the lower Klamath is only open to tribal members for subsistence fishing - no visitors allowed. She didn't know about estuary fishing or jet boat trips.

I've got a call in to the fisheries office to ask about that and, hopefully, they respond and have positive news. I'm not expecting it.
