The KRRC (Klamath River Renewal Corporation) is extremely pleased that KRRC and PacifiCorp are items for
consideration/action on the July 16, 2020 FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) agenda. KRRC has requested that those of us in the Northern California fly fishing community do not write any more letters to FERC supporting dam removal on the Klamath River until further notice.
Thank you,

Great another hurdle to dam removal...

'PacifiCorp said in a statement that the ruling denied its customers the protections it had negotiated that were one of the “bedrock principles” of the agreement.'

And Siskiyou County trying to pull a fast one...

'The ruling went on to deny a motion by the Siskiyou County Water Users to dismiss the transfer application, as well as a motion for clarification from Siskiyou County. Efforts to reach the Siskiyou County Water Users Association were unsuccessful Thursday.

Siskiyou County’s latest request for a delay in FERC’s decision cited the COVID-19 pandemic. The county filed a request on April 8 asking FERC to delay action until after the pandemic, arguing “now is not the time to make a hasty decision.”'

And from our wonderful congressmen representing the north state...

'In a Thursday afternoon statement, U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Richvale, hailed FERC’s decision as a win for those who are fighting to keep the dams. He said it “clears the way to stop this terrible project without wasting more of California taxpayer funds or Oregon ratepayer dollars.”

LaMalfa said in his opinion, PacifiCorp should instead pursue relicensing of all four Klamath dams, “ensuring the Basin continues to receive ample carbon free, clean power for years to come.”'

Guess what Doug? PacifiCorp tried that. They don't want them. Retrofitting them costs more to their ratepayers than removal. We've known this for 15 years.

Siskiyou County refused to negotiate in the settlement and waived the opportunity for a seat at the table. Instead, they are spending county taxpayer dollars to try and litigate... dumb.

Dumb indeed they say fools and their money soon part, unfortunately for Siskiyou that means my tax dollars. They spent 2 million fighting Scott River ground water laws only to lose and cough up more than a million more for attorney fees. Funny thing is Siskiyou gets no water from dams so its hard to tell what the return on investment is.

Andy - It's a brain scratcher. I attended quite a few of the local meetings in the early days while the county was trying to decide whether or not to participate in the settlement negotiations. In my opinion, their position was/is based more on ideology as opposed to representing the best interest of their constituents.
