I still have a few of the 'skinny Humpys' that he tied.

Those are kept in my fly museum along with a few other flies created by notable tiers of days past.

We had a little 600 sq ft cabin in Dunsmuir for 10 years.

I would work on it and then drive to the Ted Fay Fly Shop for marching orders.

It was early one year, maybe May? and the stoneflies where flying around that warm afternoon.

Joe sold me a few large "skinny orange Humphys" and told me to drive down to the end of Financial Avenue and fish upstream.

It was the best hour of dry fly fishing I ever had, sadly by myself.

Joe Kimsey had a wonderful life and touched many of us.

After graduating from CSU-Chico and working in Redding for a couple of years I moved back to Weed, CA. I had been a fisherman from the age of 6, but I had the desire to learn how to fly fish. I met with the Mt. Shasta Flyfishing Club in 1979 and that was my first encounter with Joe. He and his fly club were a great bunch of guys/gals. I would see Joe at he bowling alley once a week and we would exchange hellos. In 1980 I got a job offer in Sacramento and made the move. In 1985 I walked into Kiene's Fly shop and bought the whole program. Thanks Joe for teaching me how to tie flies and Bill for making me a true fly fisherman. I still have two Kiene's Custom fly rods!
