So I have been wanting to post my fishing report for the past 2 weeks but between traveling and having multiple work projects, it has been delayed. FINALLY here is my original post:

My father and decided to make the trip over the pass and fish the legendary Pyramid lake again. We drove up on Sunday evening so that we could start fishing as legally early as possible on Monday.

Monday started off tough, slow, and cold. Between the morning time and 2pm, we only saw two fish landed in the area. We were trying so many different colors and patterns of midges, nymphs, and leeches to try to figure out what would work. Around 2:19 pm, we finally got a take down on our indicator but it popped off. Shortly after that, we got into some fish and a few others were hooking up around us. However, overall it was a pretty slow day for most people.

I am thankful that we finally got into some action because it was a really trying day. Red was the hot color for midges that finally produced some takedowns. But when I say red, I mean the entire pattern we red. We tried midges with a red body and a different color for the head, but they did not produce. Go figure:confused:

Overall, it was a successful trip and I can't wait to go back again.

A few notes:

-The Wulff Ambush is a really great line (thanks for the recommendation BS 'Bob') and it competes with the Rio Intouch Switch Chucker. Bob is really onto something here with overlining the rod....essentially, if you do not use a floating tip (like a MOW tip) on your line, you can go up approximately 100 grains and compensate for the lack of the tip. If you prefer, you can always use a tip with the Ambush or a Chucker for extra distance but it is not necessarily needed.

-We used lightweight spey rods that were 13' and 13'6" in length. This setup allowed for longer distance to cover more water when casting and provided the ability to cut thru the wind. As long as the spey rods are light in hand and balanced with the reel, we did not notice a decrease in performance compared to their switch cousins.

-We also experimented with slip indicators that allowed us to have longer leaders but would "disengage" and slide down the leader when reeling in a fish. These were great! I think we are going to experiment with "glow in the dark" indicators for the low light morning and evening conditions. We will see how that goes.

I have only been fishing Pyramid Lake for about 3 months now but I am having a blast learning the fishery and all the techniques that go with it.
