Hi all,

I am going to be spending a week in Marathon over Christmas and New Years... I have a guide for a 3 days ( http://www.stripstrikecharters.com ), and the rest of the time I may try beaches/wading.

I have a Galvan Grip reel currently spooled with 9 wt Rio Outbound Short 6ips sinking. Not a great line for baby tarpon, cuda, redfish, etc...

I have never fly fished warm saltwater, and I don't know if I should splurge for a warm water floating line for this one trip, or if I can "get by" with a general-use floating saltwater 9 wt line (something I could use for topwater stripers in the bay or delta for example).

How important is a cold water versus warm water line?

First world problems...

Anybody got a line rec for me?

Thanks, John

A general-use floating saltwater line will do just fine , the temps over Christmas/New Years won't be in the 100's !

Have a great trip !!

David hit it spot on...wading your line does not get hot.

Off the deck of a white fiberglass skiff I would use a tropical line.

Normally the top guides in the Keys have better tackle to use than yours.

For a guided trip you need a hat with chin strap, sunscreen, Polarized glasses and a credit card or check book.

John,

If I was paying big bucks for a Florida guide, I would ask him what line . I would also ask him to lend me his line and also use his flies, after all that's what your paying for. Out of all the Florida guides I have hired all have offered to lend me there equipment. Good luck

This-

If you really want to get a line tho, look at the airflo tropical series. I have it on a 8 wt and its sweet.
