Not everyone can do this moving because of "existing conditions" like grand kids, aging parents, etc.

If you have snow in the winter you might not go out side much, especially if you are older.

If you have hot summers you might not go out side much either.

For the winters you would move somewhere in the southern part of the United States.

Texas, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina.........suggestions?

For the summers you would move somewhere in the northern part of the US.

Coast of Oregon, Washington, or Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming........suggestions?

In some places you can buy a fishing shack for $100,000 or a modest home for $200,000.

It would be nice to be comfortable year round when you are older and retired.

It will allow you to be more active and be more healthy.

What do you think about this idea? I do know some folks who do this.

We hate the hot dry summers in the Sacramento Valley.

You can get an RV to get out of hot summers or snow in winter?

I agree Bill. But I live the heat.

Did I tell you, I am officially retired. It feels great. Still recovering. But I am guiding again, tying and writing articles.

Got an article in CA Fly Fisher this month and Fly Fishermen next spring.

Feels great. 49 and retired!!!

Lance.....Congratulations, I am happy for you and proud of you for pulling the plug so early but you have plenty to do.

Lance and Lincoln Gray have a cabin on Lake Almanor, Lincoln still works at Sierra Stream & Mountain fly shop in Chico.

Twins Lance and Lincoln, both guide together with Tim Fox and his twin brother out of Orland, CA.

Lance and Lincoln guide, teach, have tours, and manage some private water in Nor Cal too.

I do promote retiring early because I watched thousands of men for over 50 years go through life in my sporting goods career.

Hell, if you don't have to I would never even start to work.

There is more to life than work.....

The reality is everyone has a different set of circumstances to deal with.

Some will have to work until God takes them from us.

If I was younger, single and had a small income I would RV, maybe work a little part time and fish all over the United States full time,

year round.

My friend Bob Nakagawa, retired owner of Sierra Anglers in Modesto, sold his home there, moved to Idaho Falls and works in a good fly

shop at a lodge in Montana in the summers now.

_______________________________________________

My friend Rick Jorgensen, retired engineer, sold everything, bought a truck and 4 season travel trailer and left to RV almost full time

around North America.

_______________________________________________

Contractor Rick Radoff and his wife retired and left Roseville about 5 years ago to RV and fish full time, year round all around the

United States.

________________________________________________

David and Susie Armocido, retired school teachers, sold out in Colusa and moved to Missoula, Montanta so David could fish almost year

round.

_________________________________________________

Sacramento City attorney Darl Doke and wife retired and moved up to Oregon to be close to good fishing.

_________________________________________________

Lots of my customers and good friends retired, sold out here and moved to Oregon, Washington, Idaho or Montana.

________________________________________

Years ago Al Perryman, Gary Anderson, Gordon Langenbeck, Larry Cullin, Gary Warren and Charlie Costner all moved up to southern

Oregon along the Rogue River.

One of my dearest friends and mentors, Bob Giannoni and wife, retired CA Highway Patrol folks sold out and move to Fort Collins,

Colorado. Bob joined a private fly fishing club on the river that runs through town.

Retired veteran/law enforcement friend Charlie Schillinsky and wife moved up near Bend, Oregon.

Lance,
Congrats on the retirement. Is your wife still working?
Have always enjoyed time spent with you on the rivers.
Great guides are also great teachers; Lance is at the top
of his game!

We have two places, here in Sac and another in central-ish PA near the Susquehanna and lots of limestone creeks. Figure to take the whaler with us when we go that direction for smallmouth. With all the rocks though, may end up with aluminum.

Wife hates the cold, so its likely we will spend time between the two, besides all the kids and grand kids are in COW region (Ca,Or,Wa).

Plan was 3 more years, but life stepped in and told us it might be longer. I'm fine w the idea of going sooner if it happens though.

Andy and I love Smallmouth in moving water......

My friend Bob Long had a temporary job back east for some time and fished the streams back there for SMB.

He contacted me and I set him materials and flies until he settled on an Atlantic Salmon dry fly for SMB on top.

It was a natural colored Bomber, maybe size 4 or 6?

Hal and Jane Janssen retired and left Santa Rosa for Forrest Ranch, California.

Forest Ranch is just north on Hwy 32 out of Chico, CA at 2,400 feet elevation.

They also spend a lot of the summer at their place on Lake Almanor.

Good plan Bill. I live in Hawaii, we have nice winters and summers, so I will retire here. But I plan to travel as much as possible.

Sounds good Don....

If you live near the beach in San Diego like my old friend Todd Setzer you have nice weather year round too.

If you don't really run your heater or air conditioner much it saves money too.

I like/live in Sacramento in the winter, with the American river fishing close. Colorado in the summer. Though they just raised the price of the fishing license to over 100$”yr. non resident.

I have been thinking about pulling the plug and then coming across this thread it’s not helping me stay in the game. Lol. There sure is more to life than work!
