So tried Heenan last week on Friday. It was the last weekend for this fishery till next year.
I know everyone has their special fly that seems to work for them. My go to is usually a black AP on a type three sinker. It seems to help get me 5-6 fish each trip. I know others who do better and some worse.
It was an interesting trip because I was talking to another guy who was using floating line with no indicator and a red copper john. I only got one more fish than he did and I am sure I was down 8-10 feet deep with my fly, while he was down three to four feet with his. We both had success but with different approaches. Goes to show when it comes to fishing and being successful or having good old fun it doesn't always depend on the fly.
In fact I was floating next to another fly fisher who asked me if I took stomach samples to see what the fish were on. He said they had red blood worms in their stomachs. He was indicator fishing. He was on the know as to what they were eating. He had the least success among us three.
Because winter was setting in my attractor was just as tempting as any midge but a red cooper john was the right fly in the right area of the lake for the other guy. I guess that's why they call it fishing. I call it fun :)
