Well if you do you need to dedicate more time to your fly fishing.

Fishing locally in the American river or local ponds will help.

Find someone in a fly shop who seems interested in helping you.

Go into Kiene's on most Sundays and work with Andy Guibord.

Andy has mentored hundreds of local anglers helping them become very good fly fishers.

First off let Andy help you to be sure you rod, reel and fly line are balanced and in shape.

Once you have an outfit that is set up right you need some fresh leaders and tippet.

Tying good knots is extremely important too.

I recommend fishing barbless 100% of the time. I have been barbless sense the 1970s.

Have Andy work with your casting which is a very important part of the game.

Andy has a special program where you can go fishing "with him" for a reasonable fee.

Some people get into the sport and become pretty good in a short time because they are devoted.

Others can be fly fishing for decades and still can't cast well or fish well.

Joining one of the local fly clubs can be a good idea.

There are some really good fly fishers in each club....plus others who just are there for the coffee and cookies.

Getting together with a friend and splitting the cost of a guided trip is a good idea after you get your casting sorted.

Even a half day trip up on the Truckee river in the summer would be good.
