May is the big month in California for the warm water species for us fly fishers in shallow water.

This is Kevin Doran's favorite month for top water LMB in the Delta.

Low elevation reservoirs are all very good with lots of fish in the shallows now.

Farm ponds are going wild if you can find on to fish.



Many are fishing local waters after work during the week.

Just got back from Clear Lake using Ryan Williams's Float N' Fly techniques. Had a great time catching 12" Crappie all day. Also got some Bass, Sunfish, and a 12 lb Catfish. Saw huge Carp spawning in the shallows. What a sight to see these fish splashing and coming out of the water.

Thanks Gregg! Your catfish was the real icing on the cake for the trip. Wish I could have witnessed the battle. And spot on info Mr. Kiene. May is a top month for topwater in the Foothills. Lots of great structure with the higher levels this season.
