Greetings All,
I have recently decided I'm gonna give this tight line nymphing a go this season. I picked up a 10' 4wt outfit and am ready. If any one has a guide recommendation that specializes in this form and it experiences to share, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm mainly looking to take some of the guess work out of "feel" and setup by hooking up with a guide or some people looking for river company.

Unfortunately my river time is limited these days and just figuring it out ends up being more frustrating than productive.
I'm considering mainly the Upper Sac and Pit rivers mainly cause their some of my favorites (but I'm open to other waters that are closer to the bay and or offer good structure for the tight lining techniques.

Here us a site I've been reading recently
https://troutbitten.com/2016/02/03/the-mono-rig-and-why-fly-line-sucks/

And a book I've recently picked up.

If any one is wading the same river and wants to split a guide then fish for a day or two, Let me know.

When it comes to tight line nymphing and guiding, Doug Ouellette is at the top of anyones list...Reno, NV.

Good Luck, Bob

Hey ICE,

Gilligan does tight line clinics on the Big Truckee. I'd say he's be your go to guide for tight lining.

I'm pretty sure he does group clinics with Doug Ouellette as well.

As Eric said, Gilligan and Doug have held several nymphing clinics together as a team. Most important to ICE, at one of their clinics Doug caught a 32" Brown on the Truckee while demonstrating his tight line technique to the students. I love Gilligan, but when it comes to tight line nymphing Doug walks on water.

Best, Bob

Thanks for the input. The trucker is on my list of favorites as well probably #3 just not top 2. I'll look up Doug and the the clinics.

I couldn’t recommend Wayne Eng more, particularly if you’re interested in the Upper Sac. He’s not only a patient and thorough teacher, but if he’s fishing without a client he’s probably high sticking. The Upper Sac is also ideally suited to the technique. http://www.wayneengflyfishing.com/

Thanks October!
I've heard of Wayne when I first started exploring the upper sac area. Heck I think I might have seen him with clients in passing. Yup his tequnique was something that was definitely spoken of in high regard and at the time differant than what was being done traditionaly.
