Monterey Area

Looks like my wife and I are going to take a trip to Monterey 4/2-4/4 for her work, which means during the day I'll be on my own.

Never been to Monterey and wondering if there are any fishable waters down there.

Any advise or info would be greatly appreciated

I was in Carmel a few weeks back and a guy was catching perch in the surf at Carmel Beach.

Lot's of area's to fish in Monterey. I lived there for 40+years and fished a lot of beaches and tide pools. You can fish the beaches around the Navy Post Grad school all the way to the sewer plant in Seaside. Del Monte beach is also fishable
If you have transportation, I would venture to Palm Beach located in Watsonville. Take Hwy 1 to Watsonville, take the Watsonville exit and go left over Hwy 1. Turn right at the Chevron station and left on to Beach road. Go all the way to the end and park (if space available). Walk over the sand dune and head north or south. I prefer to fish south, towards the houses along the beach.

Fish for perch and stripers anywhere from Santa Cruz to Monterey. There are lots of areas to explore. PM me if you want more info. -Robert

I'm guessing bring the same rods reels lines and flies that I fish for stripers up here, down there.

Any possible steelhead or trout in the area.

Steelhead is done/closed. Trout are open last sat in April but it's really hit or miss and limited to Los Padres reservoir and the headwaters of the big sur and carmel watershed,very small trout as a general rule. I would probably try for perch for the most consistent results.
