Any opinions on the "flyline stripper"? I'm concerned that the diameter of a mono running line like Amnesia is too small for the clip and it may slip out. It will be used mostly in the surf.

Regarding surf style baskets, what should I be looking at?

LOTS of holes in the bottom if you MUST use one. It is better to learn to let the water drag your slack AWAY from you as the current is almost always going up-shore (northerly) or down-shore (southerly) in the surf.

rh,
Agree with the many drainage holes. When I retired in 2000, I bought a mesh
type basket; After a year of 2-3 days per week surf fishing, it began to sag
seriously. Since then, I've had Bean, Orvis, and the stripping bucket.
Lots of holes are needed since the basket can quickly fill with water,
You also want one with cones, as these help keep your line from
tangling. Without a basket, line is floating around you and your legs.

Best to you, some beautiful mornings out there afe worth the effort.
