Large net - best way to attach

Wanted to know how you guys carry larger nets when steelheading?

I have a medium telescoping Measure Net. I know I can get a lanyard to attach
to my D ring, but then comes the problem, what if I have a beast on, and my fishing
partner needs to net the fish below me...the lanyards can't stretch that far.

Thinking a french clip, but I also don't want to see my nice net bobbing down
the river if it comes unclipped to the D Ring, which has happened before.

How do you folks carry larger nets, keep them secure, but with easy access?
