Thanks for posting that, Bill! When I was at school at the University of Maine, we rented the upstairs of a house (for $150 a month) just off the Penobscot, and my wife grew up 1/2 a mile from the Bangor Salmon Pool. The Veazie Salmon Club is at the head of the Pool.

The fishery was still in existence then (1985) but declining. The Presidential Salmon, for those wondering, was the first salmon caught at the Pool each season, and was sent to the US President. And the one of the best salmon fishermen, and frankly one of the biggest a***oles, I’ve known was my cartography professor, Claude Westfall.

Memories.

Thanks for that, gave me shivers! The parallels to the Klamath are inescapable. I have an old map put out by the Middle Klamath River Chamber of Commerce (now defunct) that was sponsored by the numerous local businesses that catered to fisherman: motels, RV parks, markets, gas stations, and guides: 99% no longer exist because the river once dubbed The Steelhead Capital of the World could only take so much abuse.

Removing dams in my lifetime (Baby Boomer) is so exciting.

There are hundreds of streams that are being rehabbed all over the world.

Tons of good Youtube videos on dam removal and stream rehab.

Thanks for the post Bill. It was well worth the 10 minutes or so it takes to watch.

Thanks for posting the excellent video! Major restoration efforts on the Klamath and many of its tributaries are making a difference. The Klamath (and the tributaries above the Trinity that are open to fishing) are seeing good steelhead returns so far this fall - the best I've seen in 4 or 5 years. Now we just need rain.
