Still hoping rain is on the way...

Regardless of rain, I am headed up the Klamath and from there to Applegate, OR. Many years ago I traveled this road several times a year and have always loved driving there. Twice I went north out of Happy Camp over "Indian Creek Road" (I believe it is now named Grayback) but it has been 24 years now. The first time I used it, more than 30 years ago, part was still gravel last time it was all paved.

Going through Google Maps it shows the route to be upriver from HC to a Forest Service road north instead of Grayback. To my eyes Grayback looks like the shorter route to Cave Junction.

Anyone use these roads much?

What kind of condition are they in?

Am I correct that the road directly from HC is the shortest route?

Thanks for any input. Leaving in one week.

I used it about a month ago to get back to Crescent City and it was fine.

That would be the shortest route over to the 199 and to Cave Junction.

Although unlikely snow can be a problem on that road.

sfspey: You used Grayback or the forest service road? Thank you.

A good friend who knows the area told me that Grayback is the road to take to Cave Junction as long as it does not snow.

He said to stay off Hwy 96 when it rains due to falling large rocks.
