Joe was one of the best examples of the Greatest Generation.

He hunted and fished most of his life.

His father or grandfather was a "market hunter" shooting ducks and geese commercially.

Joe grew up in West Sacrament along with his brother Bob.

If you watch the movie "Rivers of a Lost Coast" you will see Joe in there being interviewed.

He helped me with my fly shop treating me as if he was my uncle.

He made sure that I had the right inventory of Cortland products which were the best fly lines at the time.

Joe hunted and fished with some other wonderful old timers like Sacramento baseball legend Wally Westlake.

Walt Bennett, Henry Starr, George Martin, Joe Shirshac, and Chuck Campana were part of the infamous "Geezer Patrol".

These wonderful men treated us Baby Boomers better than we deserved and taught us how to fish and how act too.

For years they would meet at my fly shop around 11 am then all go somewhere for lunch.

I always was so jealous of what they had, how they acted and the lives they lead.

They grew up during the Great Depression, lived through World War 2 and had many years of wonderful fishing and hunting.

They are almost all gone now but we won't forget them.......
