Next Sunday will be my birthday. I'll be 71 and I won't be here. I'll be in the South Pacific landing in Rarotonga and then going on to Aitutaki. What a birthday treat to be in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Every mental image you can create in your mind about swaying palms and white sand beaches and crystal clear water is here.
There will be six of us going this time including several board members namely Jay and Darian, Jim May, Tony Serpa, and Garth Hirata, and myself. We'll be here to fish for two main species, hopefully some giant size bonefish, and giant trevally aka. GT's.
There are lots of other kinds of fish inhabiting these waters too but bones and GT's are what most folks come for. Aitutaki is a large atoll with a huge inner lagoon where most fishing takes place, but you can also go outside the lagoon into open bluewater where all the more famous gamefish reside like marlin, wahoo, yellowfin tuna, and mahi mahi. Maybe we'll get to try some open water this time too.
So, as much as I'd like to be with my family on my birthday, this will easily help me get my mind off that stuff and we'll all have lots of stories to bring back and share with everyone.
