Morning All,

Heads up! A River's Last Chance is airing tonight on PBS. History of The Eel River! Should be a good (but depressing) watch.

This should be a great history of the Eel River......once one of California's top salmon and steelhead rivers.

Being a Baby Boomer I got to see it when it was still pretty good in the 1970s thanks to one of my mentors, Al Perryman.

Many top anglers of the Greatest Generation fished it in it's full glory.

I know top Steelhead guide/instructor Jason Hartwick was involved in this movie.

My dad once told me that the Eel and the Smith was where I developed my throwing arm throwing rocks. I remember fishing the Eel when I was around ten, late 50's. I fished it pretty often while going to Humboldt State in the late 60's. I think it was on the decline by then though. Fishing below that dam by the big lumber mill was a real hoot. Big chinooks! Good memories!

Logging, dams and now Weed and Wine are sucking all the water out of the river.

The big drought of the late 1970s really hurt the river too.

This recent drought was not good either.
