Trout in mid-elevation streams and lakes are usually very good in October.
Stripers a usually good in the Delta too.
This is the top month for fly fishing for Steelhead as well.
Low elevation Valley reservoirs can have top water action with Threadfin Shad being eaten by many different game fish.
This is Fall salmon time too.
