Yosemite Merced river help?

A friend and family has rented a cabin West of Yosemite and was wondering about fly fishing in that area?

Any ideas?





50 years ago when leaving the park on the West side driving downstream along the Merced river I stopped and the fishing was great.

For some strange reason he wants some fresher info?

Here you go . . . about 48 years ago, I fished it, and If I remember correctly, I think I was skunked!

Well not to be outdone:
I have driven along the section of water many many times (including within the current decade), and have visualized catching countless trout in lots of cool nooks and pools and riffles along the way. Must have had a 30 fish day the last time I drove along this stretch, plus a few pretty good sized ones I coaxed out from boulders and ledges with streamers....
Alas, if only I’d had an actual rod with me!
