I spent 30 days paddling Quetico in northern Ontario chasing fish and good photos and video. The first 17 days were solo plus my dog and the last 13 days were tandem plus my dog. I carried 11 pounds of camera gear including a full frame DSLR, a waterproof point and shoot with a fisheye lens, a GoPro, a light weight tripod, extension tubes for close up photos and a lot of batteries. I love to fish but it gets to the point where you have caught enough fish and the challenge of getting good photos and videos becomes a nice secondary project and over the course of a month it is good to have a project going.

If you are not into video there are some photos below.

We live on a great planet. Get out there and enjoy it but leave something for the next guy.

Bump -

It was a good trip and I am happy with video. I did not want to repeat last year’s video. The underwater shots and the pike were good adds. As you get further from the end of a good trip you start to realize how good it was. Everyone has the trip that is great for them and it changes over the course of your life. Right now the canoe trip is mine. It is a big commitment and there is no hotel to stay in but both of those fit what I am looking for. Pretty good gear fishing for lakers and walleye as well which is a new fishing puzzle to work on. I may try to figure out how to do a gear fishing video. I got some laker pictures this year but they were not very good. Lakers are hard to shoot because they are so big and stressed from being dragged up into warm surface water.

John:

Nothing like recording a fish catch to support the claims of the big ones. It has been years since I Fly Fished for Bass, I lived on the Central Coast of CA in Paso Robles for a number of years, there are many lakes and ponds and some rivers and streams around there to choose from for Bass fishing, such good fighters.

I enjoyed your images and the video, thanks for sharing.

John has been doing this trip for years.

He gave me the name of a canoe guide / outfitter up there who could lead a trip with a group of anlgers.

He can supply canoes, gear and food too.

John knows the prime time too.

I have heard and read about the "Boundary Waters" for decades.

No lodges or motors allowed.

All paddling, portaging and camping.......
