Thanks for your great coverage of the famous hex hatch. I know there are a lot of large fish, both smb and trout; how do you catch them the rest of the year? Are they reachable with fly gear/type 6 lines stripping streamers? Do they come shallow, especially in autumn? Is the pond smelt the best streamer choice, and which pattern? Thanks, Mike, use your life vest even when near the dock

Fly fishing guides / instructors Lincoln and Lance Gray are the Lake Almanor fly fishing guys....

They have a cabin up there and go up there mid June through mid July............... guiding and teaching.

I have heard in the past that people Like Hal Janssen fish deep around springs from an anchored boat.

Other anglers fish were some major tributaries flow in like the Hamilton Branch on the east side and the North Fork of the Feather river on the north end near Chester.

I think the lake has Small Mouth Bass, Rainbow and Brown trout and land locked salmon.

There is a good fly shop in Chester, CA at the north end of the lake.
