My cousin got married on saturday, so all the family is in town. I took my brother in-law out last week wednesday. He hooked up to a 100lber on spin gear fought it for 1 and 1/2 hours only to have leader break when we saw color right under the boat. Heart break.

We made one more drift past the buoy and Igot this 120lber on some chunk bait. Now we had some sashimi and steaks for the wedding.

I took my 2nd cousin out to A-bay and he got this bone on a spin rod, I teased him cause he didn't know how to hold a bone.

I took my sister and her friend there a couple of days later and Susan hooked a big bone only to have it break her off and got in a nice 6lber, but it shook the hook at landing. I went for a 1/2 hour in Hilo this afternoon and got three and a surgeon fish, impossible. You have to fish the right tides. Going out for more ahi this week. Hope you all have a good summer, Mems.

Hi Don,

Nice report....lotsa sashimi!

Are those surgeon fish pretty elusive? Thought I read that somewhere.

Is it their fins that are so sharp and can slice and dice you?

Nice Ahi. They are catching them on the south end of Cerralvo and also the north end. Some of the fish have been in the 60 to 70lb range. My friend lost one at the boat around 60lbs on fly. The leader broke. He was using 25lb he said he should've been using 30# maybe more. When i was there in May, I lost a big one, Efren said around 50#. It literally kicked my butt. I was using a Mangrove 10wt with 20# leaders. I landed two in the mid to high twenties. I can't wait until October. Last October we kicked butt on yellow fin and wahoo. Almost have the purple rapala fly finished
