Walked up to a guy on a small lake in the Black Hills today.

He was on vacation and had just bought a pretty nice fly fishing outfit.

His casting was OK but had no idea how to strip the line and "work" the fly.

I ask him if he wanted me to show him some basic still water technique.

While I was demonstrating how to strip the line through you fingers on you rod hand I hooked a Rainbow trout.

I quickly handed him the rod........



Most of the time people just need an hour or so to get them started off.

I think this is the best way to get someone started. Trying to cast and not "getting it" (for awhile) can be frustrating. Having a fish on is the "here is what it is about". Gives them a goal.
