We are feeling like summer is close by.....
Flows are leveling at 1100 cfs and chilly...
Almost 1300 in the canyon...and perfect.
The T has a real beauty this time of year, Green/clear and 43 deg or so....and can be waded for the first time this spring, selectively..........
Don't go too big, because it's still pushy....
As far as bugs....
Saw a Skwalla yesterday....crazy...
Haven't seen a March Brown for a while.
But the nymphs are still showing in my seine.
BWOs should pop this weekend with a few clouds....
Expecting flying Carpenter Ants any day...tie or buy...
Midges of course....
It seems to be going a little earlier and later, not so much high noon anymore...

It has been very fishy, for those that know how.....a buddy and I doubled yesterday..
Both Browns and Bows are feisty.
Let me know if I can help...if you blank now, it's not due to the river....
We are well below 50% pack and it's warm days and nights....the frog chorus is outstanding, and the stars are brighter up here!
Fish now.....

Ok....
The river is looking good....the upper section between Truckee and TC is flowing well and has given up a few fish, and a fish has spanked an angler or two.
Overall, bugs are sparse...more morning and afternoon.
The only thing I notice since opening day, is fishers are more spread out. You can find a spot to fish without sharing.
It's flowing at 590cfs and green/clear....pretty....water is perfect.
Those that have read my posts for the last 9-10yrs know I only use the "P" word twice a year.....
River's a little bigger down below, but still very fishy.
I can feel the change about to happen......H2O temps are starting to climb this week, this will boost our bugs.
Nymphing is steady, March Browns...maybe...worms probably....Baetis for sure.....a few Glossasoma are fluttering...and still seeing Skwallas....occasionally,... look for shucks. Starting to see swallows and Brewer's black birds feeding on the wing.....
The Alders are starting to bud, and the flows are now below the branches....
Fish are starting to chase a streamer......it will get better over the next couple weeks.
Bobbers are still a good approach for now.....be a bit more sneaky than this Spring, water is clear and fish are aware of us.......
Starting to see a riser or two, I think they are waiting for Hoppers and Drakes....or Ants....
It will only get harder as we go....!
Remember that all the easy parking/fishing has been hammered for 6 months.....maybe walk a bit.
Now that the water is a little lower and warming, think about where the fish may go...if he goes.....you need to go too.....
I have been able to cross the river quite a few times, so it is doable if you are careful...buddy wading is advised for safety.
If ya push it, you might swim,...tap dancin'...is close to a swim......I swam yesterday.
There are big fish lurking if you don't tell them you are coming, and get a good drift.
Been seeing some nice browns from soft water...
I'm on the my home water almost every day....guiding/teaching/fishing, near 300+ days.....this is not a "monthly" report from visitors.....
as my daddy said.."Always consider the source".
BTW.....today was nominated for "Nicest day of the year"....
Looks like weather is going fishy/cloudy this week.
Holler if I can help.

Jim

Gave a clinic for Golden Gate Casting Club last weekend......
Was really nice helping people who practice before they come up!
Conditions were a little high for learning, but we still got into a few fishes......
The T is fishing well if you have game.......if not....I can help!
Give a call if you want to raise the bar on your fishing technique.......or the fish you chase.......

Raining off and on the next few days, fishing is good..................bring a coat.

Ryan tags a beaut!

Flows are @579 cfs.....and holding....clear green and 50ish deg.....Upper river is a tad warmer than lower river.....
March browns are the thing, maybe....some caddis....and BWOs.....little black and red ants are flying...big ones coming soon!
Drake nymphs are starting to show in the net......none flying yet, but soon......
It's time to fish mostly......

Treatem nice!!

Tyler scores on a dry!

We have gone to summer time!
Skies are blue and clear, with a light breeze from the west.
The river is clear, and dropping very quickly. 191cfs......63deg....
Soon it may be too warm unless they start releasing from Tahoe.
Wet wading is advisable.......too warm for gortex in the sun.
Looks like game on!

You can hunt these fish with a dry, a bobber, or you can swing a streamer........
Get a good drift though....they know what we are up to.....
It's mid-morn and late.........

Maybe fish an emerger or soft hackle. PMDs are here! early and late.
A few fluttering Caddis are about.....BWOs, and Lil pinks....seeing beetles and ants, so they are worth a try too.
Carpenter ants are flying, Termites too evenings.............watch the birds for clues.
Green Drakes!!!....buy them or tie them......it only happens once a year....
OMG...!!! Drakkkkkeeeeess....

Lots of other fishers on the water...........
Bring your A-game for the T.
Let me know if I can help.
Flows are getting low and warm soon........don't wait...FISH NOW.

Treat'em nice.

Jim
