Pyramid Lake Fishout

From April 15-17 a dozen members of the WestSlope Chapter of Trout Unlimited in Missoula descended on Pyramid Lake to experience fly fishing for Lahontan cutthroat. We fished with Rob Anderson and his crew of Chris and CW and they took very good care of us with ladders, the right rigs and flies as well as coffee, breakfast and lunch. You could not hope for more pleasant, helpful and friendly guys.

Everyone caught fish and some of our group caught a lot. Our biggest fish was estimated at 7 to 8 pounds so we did not break the magical 10 pound marker, but all of us caught the largest cutthroat of our lives. Those who stuck with indicator fishing as recommended did very well and those of us who choose to strip nymphs and beetles caught a lot fewer but did manage some.
To say fishing Pyramid is a bit different from other places is a bit of an understatement. But we all loved the landscape, watching the weather change around the lake and of course the chance of catching a true monster cutthroat.
Hats off to Rob and his crew for helping us to have such an outstanding experience.
