Right at the old fishing/hunting club at the Gold Fields below DaGuerre Dam. Closed over a year ago to access :( God I miss that spot. Best Shad bank access in entire Sac Valley. Hope they open the membership back up. Great place to camp too. Many memories shad fishing there almost 20 years

Thanks Wynn for finding this wonderful old 16mm film that has been transferred to digital made by American Airline, an RV company and the California Department of Fish & Game.

Shad fishing for the transplanted American Shad back then in California attracted famous fly fishers like Ted Trueblood and Jimmy Green.

I will try to show it to the few that are left and see if they can recognized these old fly fishers in the film.

I got to go there with some old timers around 1970 entering through the Yuba Gold Fields access on the south side of the Lower Yuba River fishing just below the Daguerre Dam. I went up with Joe Patterson, Joe Shirshac and George Martin, all founding members of the California Fly Fisher Unlimited fly fishing club in Sacramento. We paid $2.00 for the car and they complained about that.

I have lost almost all these old friends who were part of the Great Generation. The Lower Yuba River below the Daguerre Dam is so nice with the shallow gin clear water. June is a big month there and they are some guides who can make it happen for you.

Hey Billy -

While one of the guys looks like Ted Trueboold, it seems like he would have been older in 1965. I used to have copies of every article that Ted Trueblood wrote for Field and Stream Magazine, and later for A. J. McClane. McClane was so very far ahead of his time.

Another guy, with only the more distant photos looks like Tom Morgan.

Best, Bob

Doug Merrick, owner of Winston Rods at the time, is probably the guy in the checkered shirt.

I think you got it right Ralph.......pretty cool.

I called our old retired Cortland line Rep, Joe Patterson, who in home in Penryn, CA in his 90s.

I told him I would try to send him a link to the movie so he could try to identify those old gentlemen.
