Back in he day the Hardy 'Lightweight' series were very iconic English made fly reels.

They came in 5 sizes: Flyweight, Featherweight, LRH, Princess and Saint Adian.

It is a tall and narrow reel with a small arbor.

It has a very smooth light click-n-pawl drag.

Veteran fly fisher Walt Bennett had one with 7 spools.

I thought that was pretty cool so I did about the same.

I use it on my 6 weight and 7 weight rods with lots of different fly lines.

Many years ago Bob Giannoni connected me with a fly fishing shop in London where we could by Hardy reels.

It was cheaper than we could buy them from the US importer in the United States due to high import duties.

In the old days we had to try several new spools into any old fly reel to make sure it would fit properly without rubbing.

Today with the high quality CNC machining this is not normally a problem.

My friend guide Fred Gordon had or has an old "Flyweight" or " Featherweight" he used on very small fly rods.

Neil Hansen liked the "LRH" for his 5 weight trout rod so he had two of them.

One was brand new still in the box as a back up.

Back in the day you either bought a Hardy Lightweight reel or a Pflueger Medalist.

There were lots of other fly reels but in America these were the most popular.

You might try Archuleta's Reel Works in Grant's Pass, OR. I've gotten parts for my Hardy reels from him in the past.

Joe, thank you! I checked with Bill Archuleta last week, and he only has the newer 1 screw version.

Best, Bob
