I'll be in Tulum for a week after Christmas. I'm looking for some guide recommendations for a day of fishing. Not really interested in bonefish. But I wanna fish the mangroves for baby tarpon and snook.
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks all.

East out from Tulum by ferry boat is Cozumel and the remote lagoons on the north end.
South of you is the old Boca Paila Lodge near Boca Paila.
Further south of you is Punta Allen on Ascension Bay.
North of you is Isla Blanca lagoon above Cancun.
The Tulum area is not a good destination for fly fishers.

Hey Jeff,
Your best bet is Ascension bay which is just south of Tulum. Its primarily a bonefish and permit fishery but there are some excellent snook fishing on the west side of the bay. The baby tarpon fishing is spotty at best in the bay. I've fished with Pesca Maya a few times and they're great. They will even pick you up at your Tulum hotel.
Its a misnomer that Tulum is not a good fly fishing destination. If you know where to go, the shore fishing is fantastic for permit, jacks, bones, barracuda and a variety of reef fish. Check out northern Tulum at Tankah Bay and Soliman Bay for some absolutely awesome fishing opportunities. If you have a little extra time and don't mind walking a bit...check out Paradise bay (location of the old Oscar and lalo restaurant) which is just north of Soliman Bay. Access is difficult but if you can find a way into the bay...the fishing there is amazingly good.
