Working on a few different ideas for some fast water caddis for next season.. Here's two of them. Thoughts?

I don't know about how well the flies will work, but I sure like your photo's. The quality of the picture is excellent.

What camera and lens are you using? Great close ups.

I like the second one John. Tails on caddis don’t make that much difference unless you’re trying to imitate a shuck like on an x-caddis or EC caddis. Your choice of materials intrigue me and I sure would like to incorporate them into the flys that I tie.

I agree with Tony, your photographs are top shelf. Like the bottom or olive colored fly. I've always liked flies on the bulky side (Rosboroughs Casual Dress, Wooly Bugger, etc.) but these seem to represent Snails more than Caddis. IMO, they'll catch fish in fast or still water tho.

The camera is a older Sony DSC-9 with a built in macro that has been overly abused. Cannot tell you how many times it has been dropped in the boat, banged, etc. In fact the lens housing is dented. Still works! Lighting is the key to photography as I learned within the last year. The guys at Mike's in Sacramento gave me a very impromptu lesson..

I am attempting to tie good bushy pattern that will sit in the surface film and look crippled yet fluttering to escape (hence the shuck and bulk). The small olive/bright green versions have worked decent - surprisingly at Putah - yet I am looking for the holy grail.. It will also double for a diving caddis after the body thins down a wee bit.
