Anyone been to MFFR recently in the canyon area? Thinking about checking it out but not sure how bad the smoke is around Sloat/Quincy or how the flows/fishing are looking. Thanks in advance!

I think that October is a great time to fish almost any trout stream in Nor Cal.

Smoke is bad in Grass Valley today. I suspect that it's worse up on the Feather from the fires in Yuba and Butte County. There's no escaping it for awhile, I'm afraid.

On the other hand, the fish don't care.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the head's-up. Might go further north to McCloud country, assuming the area is relatively smoke-free. Would be curious to know if/how the smoke impacts the hatches and feeding activity. Maybe the baetis are fooled into thinking its cloudy weather?

Thanks EO and Mr. JOHN! Those MFFR fish are something special! High heat summer temperatures for a rainbow that have adapted to and still strive! Plus the fro -Munda mung algae bloom that has suffocated the river bottom! Fortunate enough you can still connect into one of these mint beauties!

Great shops with friendly knowledgeable people. I was lucky to be the first recipient of a USFS Plumas National Forest special use permit in 1997 to guide legally. I know the area's waters like the back of my hand, shoot me an email if you have any questions. Always wiling to share the knowledge. - J.
