This is what an ahi orgy looks like after they are done. The big ahi spawned over the weekend here off the Hilo side of the big island. Now they are tired and will go on the chew and then will split.

I went out friday with my friend Alex and we got a gorilla, an ahi of 200lbs. Here he is fighting the big boy. We took turns on the reel and it was a s a little hairy at the leader, but got it on board.

The sickles were sick, almost touched the tail fin. It was an epic battle that lasted an hour and a half.

We put it on ice and then cut it up the next day. We were both entered in a tournament on that day fishing on different boats, and both got skunked, but that is fishing. If it had been during the tourney it would have been the biggest ahi and worth $2,000 and a gold shimano reel. That is fishing. We also got three mahi same day.
It was our largest ahi of the season and now we have some great steaks and lots of sashimi.

If you ever see this when fishing in Hawaii be sure to run some lures and catch a big ahi before they are all gone, Mems.

I can't imagine what that would be like on a 15wt fly rod. I've got them up to 45 pounds on fly rod, my friend got one around 55lbs on a 9 wt fly rod, took an hour and a half. I going back down in October with a group and will be targeting wahoo with the fly rod. Got a TFO Mangrove 12 wt, 450 yards of 50# braid, 100' of 50lb shooting line, a 500gr head and a 14" mackerel fly with 80# wire attached.
Just heard that there are netting sardina's inside Muertos Bay. Hopefully they will stay in the area and not get wiped out by the commercial netters

Hey Jay, this one had about 50 yards of power pro around the hook when we took it out of his mouth. Must have taken a lot of line off an aku rod. Good luck when you are in baja, hope you get your ono. When you hook one you will be surprised how fast line can peel off a reel. Don
