Here is an email I just received:

Hi friends of E Ne Nuck

Unfortunately we don't have much news to report. I have not yet seen a fishing pole along the rivers, although I hear they have been catching salmon at Gray's Falls. That normally closes to salmon fishing September first. Since the Klamath Summer king salmon run shows up at the mouth of Bluff Creek about the first of August, I went to the top of the trail and looked about 8 last evening, and there are salmon rolling in the mouth of Bluff Creek, just as they always do August first. We just don't have any campers except on weekends.

Yesterday Little Ran told me he is seeing half pounders in the Trinity.

The first month I was here the weather was very nice, but we had a few hot and smoky, 99*F here in camp. We are supposed to be in a cooling trend now, and the heat and smoke are gone. Our normal weather pattern keeps the smoke out of here, but when high pressure sets up over the 4 corners, it gets really hot in NorCAL, and pushes the smoke down clear to the coast.

Everything seems normal.

That's our meager news for now.

Your old friends, Simba and John

I've heard of a few anecdotal reports of steelhead being caught on the mid to lower Trinity early and late in the day. Might be fake news but only 1 way to find out for sure.

Al Perryman is catching a few Steelhead on the middle Rogue River very early swing with a dark winged classic fly.

He said it would be better for him if the flow was lower.

It is 3,000 cfs now ans is normally 1,500 cfs.

He said the guys pulling plugs are doing well up his way.

Al said the salmon are in the lower river.

A friend of mine went to the mouth of the Klamath Friday (yesterday).
He reported 1 nice 3lb steelhead.
Ironically, I limited out on King salmon and striped bass on the American River in less time than it took him to drive one way to the Klamath.
I was swinging spinners and plugs...
He did catch a nice 22" halibut in Trinidad though ;)

Report from top lower Klamath River jet boat guide:

"Not bad Bill. It was really tough for a while but some fish have showed up. Not RED HOT but some steelies. The salmon are not moving up yet. For the most part, all at the mouth. Pretty much ends for everyone except fly fisherman on the 15th. I am headed to the Rogue.
Take Care, Alan"
