Over my 50 years in the fishing tackle business in Sacramento I heard about the wooden fishing reels that were made in Canada for many years. I think this was all they had up in those remote areas to fish with. I think they were made for salmon fishing. For trout they mostly had fly outfits that they trolled with too. Before WWII there were no spinning reels except in Europe.
